With Tempur-Pedic® you experience a better night’s sleep, no springs attached!

Tempur-Pedic "viscoelastic, open-celled material is temperature-sensitive, and 100% energy absorptive."

Back in the 1970s, NASA was experimenting with a material that would conform to the exact body weight and shape of any astronaut. The material was also developed to relieve the enormous G-forces experienced by astronauts during lift off, flight and descent into the earth's atmosphere. The material was highly promising, but proved to be highly difficult to manufacture and it suffered from durability problems.

NASA released the raw material to the industrial world in the early 1980s. Fagerdala World Foams of Varmdo, Sweden, a company specializing in technical foams, jumped at the opportunity to refine this highly promising product released by NASA. They realized the tremendous potential of this unique pressure relieving material. Fagerdala experimented with the product for almost a decade and perfected its composition and durability.

The result: Tempur-Pedic, an open-celled, visco-elastic, temperature sensitive material that senses body weight and temperature and then automatically adjusts and completely supports the user. This revolutionary material relieves the pressure that causes poor sleep; tossing and turning; and aches and pains. It is, without a doubt, a space-age material.

Tempur-Pedic® adapted the material as bedding which relieves "pressure points," thereby increasing the comfort level, reducing tossing and turning, and thus greatly enhancing the sleep experience.

Tempur should not be confused with North American T-foams which upon first examination, can appear to behave similarly to the tempur material. Under closer scrutiny the T-foams lack the same density, Therapeutic benefits and longevity offered by the tempur material.

The open cell construction makes the Tempur material totally breathable. The Tempur material has a density of approximately 5.4lbs/ft3 which is approximately 5 times denser than regular polyurethane. For this reason the Tempur material can accomodate more pressure or weight than other polyurethane foams.
